I am often reminded by my business partner who grew up overseas and she says that compared to other government, doing business with the U.S. government is a pleasure. The Voluntary Cosmetic Registration Program (VCRP) This is an FDA reporting system for use by manufacturers, packers, and distributors of cosmetic products that are in commercial distribution in the United States. The VCRP assists FDA in carrying out its responsibility to regulate cosmetics.
So, we took the plunge and started the registration (which was a little scary getting on the government’s radar screen…but it was all good in the end. The registering our product ingredients was a simple to follow process, but Ms. Wright (I kidded her about finally finding Ms. Wright after all this time) responded to all my requests for assistance in trying to determine the correct codes and names for my ingredients and every time I screwed up – she was there and went into the system and fixed my errors for me. How cool is that? To top it off – she was a pleasant person to work with and wasn’t offended when I kept asking her if she was still in her P.J.’s as she got to work from home occasionally.
When the process was finished it was determined that our products ingredients are all safe and approved for use by both the U.S. government and the E.U.. One other unique thing is that it costs nothing to register them (other than time and few more gray hair) – nothing Mug For Men couldn’t handle. By doing this, it help the government get a clear understanding of trends in ingredients while allowing businesses like ours to learn more about our ingredients and sell them with the confidence that our products are safe not only in our eyes but in the eyes of the FDA and U.S. government.
